Can tungsten rings be engraved? – Elk and Cub – 2023
One of the most popular questions we are asked is, can you engrave tungsten rings? Often couples will want to add a little something special to their wedding ring to make it one of a kind or to remind them of their partner or special day. The easiest way to accomplish this is with engraving. There are many different ideas from which to engrave your ring, such as initials, names, dates, and even heart beats and QR codes. So you truly are only limited by your imagination. But can this be done with tungsten and titanium rings? The short answer is: Yes! But read on.
Most rings that are taken to a jeweller or engraver are etched or chiselled to create the engraving. This process can be very damaging to any ring and often leaves less then desirable results. Although this is common with traditional metals like gold or silver, it is not recommended for rings made of tungsten or titanium. Due to the extreme hardness and strength of these metals, the results from traditional etch engravings will be unclear with poor clarity and line work.
So where does that leave you? Laser engraving.
For the best results we only recommend laser engraving for tungsten and titanium rings. Laser engraving is just what it sounds like: a powerful laser used to burn the engraving onto the ring. This process creates perfect lines and amazing results. You are not limited to just words or numbers either, you can have love hearts, smiley faces, and even images engraved if the surface area is large enough.
Laser engraving is now easy to come by and most major areas have many, many options to choose from. For those in more rural or remote areas, we recommend finding a company that allows for mail in orders. This means no need to visit a store or workshop, simply send your ring to be engraved and have it shipped back to you, easy as that.
The next question we get asked is, do you offer engraving on your rings as a service? The short answer is no. The reason being, that many jewellers will offer engraving on their pieces before you are properly sized or have seen the design in person. What often happens is that the sizing if incorrect or the design simply isn’t what you had hoped, then you try to return the ring only to find out the retailer does not accept returns or exchanges on custom items. You are then left with a ring you can’t wear or don’t like. We would never want that to happen to our wonderful customers, so we do not offer engraving to protect your option to make a return or exchange. Once you have your ring in the perfect design and size, you then have the option to have the item engraved at your preferred engraver.
